July 27 Oldenburg Schmiddifest and Gärten der Welt

Gardens of the World

Irish, Indian and Hobbit Gardens are among many that are open to botanical admirers in Oldenburg.

Schmiddifest Oldenburg is a reunion of CSULB students at the end of each July.

I arrived late, but it was a short 90 minute drive. I found the neighborhood without a problem but then was lost in the classic Oldenburg architecture. I saw a few older men on a balcony that turned out to be Schmiddifest relatives. A 78 year old gentleman was rolling joints and there was table soccer dominated by the beautiful young women. After some pints and cocktails with dips and chips, the grill lit fire and soon sausages were leaping from the balcony. The music got louder and the senses grew weaker as the guests dwindled and the wee hours of the morning drew in late guests and vacationers. Soon faces were hitting pillows and the mess would be left for the hosts to enjoy the morning after with a few flops that landed on the sofa.
